PERFORMANCES
Dance is a 'performing art'. Preparing for a performance is a very crutial part of learning an art-form. While it requires commitment, dedication & hard work to learn in the safe space of a class/studio, it can never really substitute for the intensity, focus, motivation & inspiration that invoves preparing for a stage-performance. It is like the acid-test for a student. It instills values of thorough practice, refinement, and surrender as the student transforms into a budding artiste ready to share & offer her divine art to the esteemed audience in all humility. The stage becomes a sacred space and the student experiences first- hand the flow of Divine Grace through her dance.
In Bharatnatyam, a very significant milestone in a dance-student's life is her first full-length solo performance known as the arangetram. It involves presenting the entire repertoire (margam) which consists of 8 items that take around 7-8 years of leraning. The duration of the performance is around 2 hrs 30 mins.
The institute trains & presents students in ir
the ‘arangetram’ that paves the way for more serious & deeper learning
& experience of the art-form.
Post- arangetram students move to advance training as solo artistes & performers
are also presented at prestigious dance festivals across the country and abroad
! Those who wish to engage in dance teaching , go through rigorous training in nattuvangam and shastras and are given an opportunity to apprentice as teachers for a period of 2 years at the institute. This empowers them to become responsible guides as they hand down the legacy to the furure genaration in its purity of form & content.
